Art of East Asia: Neolithic & Bronze Age China

A Shang period ceramic tripod bowl, ding, with corded texture and three
mostly solid legs. This type of vessel, which has been known from late
Yang Shao periods, gave rise to the bronze ding of the Shang period. However
it also continued as a ceramic type through the period, and as a ceremonial
vessel throughout the history of traditional China. Buffalo Museum of Science.
