A tomb at Wu guan cun (Wu kuan ts'un) near Anyang. Huge tombs at Anyang
were excavated for the later Shang emperors. Formed of pounded earth they
were as much as 60 meters long and 10 to 15 meters deep. Although most
have been looted, they would have contained many bronzes, sacrifice victims
and large amounts of grave goods. Ancillary pits occasionally also held
other items and victims relating to a particular burial. once refilled
and leveled, the tombs would have been indistinguishable for the surrounding
country side.
