Art of East Asia: Neolithic & Bronze Age China

Pounded earth (or "rammed" earth) basements of large structures
presumed to have been palaces have been uncovered at Xiao Dun near Anyang.
The presence of rocks on which uprights would have been places suggests
that the post and lintel construction of later traditional Architecture
was already in use. The superstructure however is entirely a conjectural
reconstruction and, given the elaborate nature of the rest of the arts of
the Shang Dynasty, it seems very unlikely to have been quite so simple.
