There are many examples of the use of jade from various sites during the Yang Shao and related cultures. As these "tools" illustrate by their lack of wear, it had more of a ceremonial and luxury usage than utilitarian. Jade, to the present day, is among the greatest luxuries in Chinese culture. On the left are various edged tools including chisels and adzes while on the right are hoes. Nome of them exhibit any signs of use.
