Open dish of shallow bowl from Ban-po. Although rare, there are other
types of vessels with painted decoration from the Yang Shao culture graves.
They were probably food containers. Since the utilitarian ware was neither
burnished nor painted, The paintings must have some sort of significance
in the mortuary context.
