The post holes as marked by the decomposed remains of wood which left
dark deposits in the holes, allow archaeologists to determine just how the
posts were placed and the relative angles at which they intersected. This
then allows for fairly accurate reconstruction's of the dwellings of the
Yang Shao people (see below). These two "pit" dwellings suggest
that the Yang Shao people lived in partially excavated houses (which would
provide greater warmth during the winters).
