The two arhats, Ananda, to the Buddhas proper right, and Kashyapa, to the Buddha's proper left, flank the central Buddha figure. Ananda is a youth while Kashyapa is shown as a wizened, old man. The arhats indicate the presence of the Buddha's community as well as illustrating that Shakyamuni andVairochana are identical.
