Title: Cave 20 , Amitabha Buddha,
detail
Material: sandstone

Period/Date: Ca. 460-475 C.E. Bei Wei Dynasty
Iconography/Iconology:
Stylistic Comments: This detail shows the folds of the drapery along
the Buddha fifgure's left arm. The raised "fold" with the central
groove is identical to that of the 477 C.E. standing
Maitreya image. Pointed ends of the "folds" implying that
they have been stretched over the body, are a distinctive Bei Wei period
convention and is also apparent in the 477 C.E. standing Maitreya image.
