Artist: unknown
Title: Bull
Material: Terracotta
Site: Mohenjo-Daro, Pakistan
Current Location: National Museum, New Delhi, India
Period/Date: Indus/Harrapa Civilization/ ca. 2300-1750 B.C.E.
Iconography/Iconology: Bos Indicus/Presumably a symbol of prosperity,
success, well-being.
Stylistic Comments: Although less well-known than the seals, there are
many sculptures of bulls and other animals from the Harrapan Civilization.
They tend toward the "realistic" and are modeled with great facility,
suggesting a developed terrocotta modeling tradition.
