This is a typical "ancestor temple."
The central tower is dedicated to Jayavarman II (802 - c. 834), the north tower to the maternal grandfather of Indravarman, and the south tower to his father. Images of Siva were installed and named after these royal ancestors. The back three towers are dedicated to the wives of the ancestors in the front towers under the guise of Gauri.
