For example, if you took 101 rolls of film during your first trip to India in 1997, the last photograph on the last roll of film would be labeled "Roll 101-97/38." On the very next trip, say to Sri Lanka in 1999, the first roll of film would be labeled "Roll 102-99." This numbering system allows the photographer and other scholars to know, at a glance, both the roll sequencing and the year the film was exposed.)
