Folk tradition

In this much smaller, and somewhat less carefully crafted, version of Amitabha's "Land of Bliss," the details are minimized and the painting is less richly developed. This version of Sukhavati is typical of offerings made on behalf of a deceased person to better his or her rebirth. Normally, such paintings are placed as offerings, either at a local temple or in a family shrine.
