An essential aspect of Hinduism is reciprocity: by giving one receives and in receiving one must give back. When prayers to the Divine are answered they must be acknowledged by giving something in return. Shrines and temples are built upon this principle, as seen in the walls that have been constructed on either side of this sacred tree.
