Namo Buddha Stupa, an important Buddhist site in Nepal, located on a hill at the east end of the Kathmandu Valley. Not far from the stupa is the cliff where Sakyamuni Buddha, in one of his former lives, is said to have sacrificed himself to save a tigress and her cubs. According to the jataka, Sakyamuni saw the tigress, who had just given birth to her cubs and was exhausted, at the bottom of the cliff. Realizing that the tigress and her cubs would die of starvation, the bodhisattva threw himself off the cliff, offering his body as food for the tigress.
