The Draining of the Lake
detail lower portion

Private Collection
This detail shows the sacred lake, at the center of which is
Swaymbhu Jyotirupa. Vipasa Tathagata, the first of the Manusi Buddhas to
visit Nepal, tossed seeds into the lake. The seeds took root at Guhyesvari
and blossomed into the lotus that arises in the center of the lake.
(The Manusi Buddhas are the eight historical Buddhas. Sakyamuni, the Buddha of this era, is understood to be the seventh Manusi Buddha. Maitreya, the Buddha of the future, will be the eighth.)
